Pinawa Manitoba Canada is a hidden gem for fall hiking enthusiasts. This small town is located inside the western boundary of Whiteshell Provincial Park, approximately 100 km northeast of Winnipeg, and it boasts a range of trails that cater to all skill levels. We discovered the breathtaking landscapes and vibrant fall foliage of this region during our cross-country #Hike4Birds on the Trans Canada Trail. The stunning autumn colours of the Canadian Shield, the crisp fall air on our faces, and the crunch of leaves beneath our feet made this one of our favourite places for fall hikes.
Some of the highlights of our hike in and around Pinawa Manitaba included following the shores of the scenic Winnipeg River on the 7.6 km out-and-back Ironwood Trail. Amazingly, we spotted huge flocks of migratory birds, including American White Pelicans, Trumpeter's Swans, Bonaparte's Gulls, Pectoral Sandpipers, Buffleheads, and Lapland Longspurs, as well as several herds of White-tailed Deer along its length. Subsequently, we enjoyed spectacular views of the rapids along the 3.7 km Pinnawa Channel Heritage Trail, which took us to the famous 44 m long Pinawa Suspension Bridge and the start of the Alice Chambers Trail. Finally, the Old Pinawa Dam Trail took us through Pinawa Dam Provincial Park, a popular tourist destination which offers stunning views of the Pinawa Channel and Dam ruins, as well as blazing fall foliage.
Whether you're interested in hiking, biking, trail running, bird watching, nature photography, or simply enjoying spectacular fall foliage, Pinawa MB has some magnificent sights that offer amazing opportunities to create lasting memories on its trails.
