I always thought of pelicans primarily as shorebirds and this I now know not to be true due to their extensive migration routes. Presumably, they keep to their diet of fish and are scooping up lake and river protein sources (trout and salmon fry and other lake fish) when they are inland and far from the ocean. More ... -
