A Visit to Quidi Vidi Brewery: A Taste of Newfoundland's Craft Beer Scene

Nestled in the charming village of Quidi Vidi, just a short walk from downtown St. John's, Newfoundland, the Quidi Vidi Brewery offers the perfect combination of local culture, stunning views, and craft beer. During our visit, we were immediately struck by how this vibrant space blends its rich heritage with modern, inclusive energy.

The covered patio, where we settled in to enjoy the atmosphere, offered breathtaking views of Quidi Vidi Harbour framed by stunning autumn colours on the surrounding cliffs. It was the ideal spot to relax and take in the rugged beauty of the area. As we sipped our drinks, we indulged in a delicious falafel pita, freshly made and packed with flavour—proof that the food here is just as fantastic as the locally brewed beverages.

A beer sampler offered Sean a taste of several of the brewery's finest creations, including the award-winning Iceberg Beer, a crisp, refreshing lager made with water collected from the icebergs that traverse Newfoundland's coastline each spring. Meanwhile, I tried a locally brewed cider, which offered the perfect balance of sweet and tart. The entire experience was further enlivened by the Beers for Queers event happening when we walked in—a full-on celebration of music, community, and drag talent. Energetic performers, dressed in glamorous and slightly naughty outfits, put on a show that had everyone cheering. It was an inclusive, welcoming space with a vibe that made us feel instantly at home.

In addition to its delicious food and drinks, Quidi Vidi Brewery is known for hosting unique community events like the Mummers Kitchen Party (a traditional Newfoundland celebration of song and dance) and Brush Strokes with Lesley, an art class that taps into the province’s creative spirit. This is truly a place where local culture shines, and it was evident in every aspect of our visit.
