Exploring the Abraham Lake Shoreline Trail near the Allstones Lake parking area is an easy and scenic way to experience one of Alberta’s most beautiful lakes. Located in Clearwater County along the David Thompson Highway near Nordegg, this informal shoreline trail offers incredible views of Abraham Lake’s famous turquoise water, rugged rocky shoreline, forested walking paths, and snow-covered Rocky Mountain peaks.

During an early May visit, we wandered sections of the shoreline trail while showing a friend from Ontario her very first Alberta mountain adventure. Even without exploring the entire route, the area delivered stunning viewpoints around nearly every corner. From peaceful forest sections to dramatic shoreline overlooks and small canyon crossings, this area of Abraham Lake is perfect for casual exploring, photography, and soaking in Alberta’s wild beauty.

The Abraham Lake Shoreline Trail near Allstones is not a heavily developed hiking trail, which adds to its charm. Visitors can enjoy a more natural Public Land Use Zone experience while still accessing incredible scenery only steps from the parking area. Whether road tripping through Clearwater County and the David Thompson Country region, photographing Abraham Lake’s bright blue water, or simply looking for an easy outdoor adventure near Nordegg, this scenic shoreline area is well worth the stop.
