Tangle Creek Falls is one of those classic Icefields Parkway stops that proves you do not always need a long hike for an unforgettable Rocky Mountain adventure. Located in Jasper National Park along Highway 93, east of Sunwapta Falls Resort, this beautiful roadside waterfall is easy to spot right from the highway. A convenient pullout, reduced speed zone, and short walk from the parking area make it a quick and family-friendly stop while exploring one of the most scenic drives in Canada.

These photos were captured during both early May and late July, showing just how different Tangle Creek Falls can look throughout Alberta’s waterfall seasons. Spring still held patches of snow and ice around the falls, creating a colder and more rugged mountain atmosphere during the start of runoff season. By late July, the landscape had transformed into lush green Rocky Mountain scenery. Our summer visit also came after a long stretch of steady heavy rain, creating a stronger and more dramatic waterfall flow than you might normally expect later in the season.

Wildlife sightings are also common in this area, with bighorn sheep often spotted near the creek and roadside. For my friend visiting Alberta for the very first time, Tangle Creek Falls quickly became one of those memorable Icefields Parkway moments. Easy access, powerful waterfalls, mountain scenery, and unexpected wildlife encounters all wrapped into one simple roadside stop in the Canadian Rockies.
