Recently, I had the opportunity to spend a sunny May afternoon exploring one of Durham Region’s most underrated outdoor experiences: the stretch of the Lake Ontario waterfront trail running from Intrepid Park in Whitby to Lakefront West Park in Oshawa. What began as a simple walk quickly became a reminder of just how important protected waterfront spaces were — not only for wildlife and environmental conservation, but also for people, families, and communities looking to reconnect with nature close to home.

This photo album shows many of the amenities available in and around the waterfront trail, as well as views of Lake Ontario from the shoreline and of the shoreline. Come with me and explore this naturally preserved section of Lake Ontario waterfront just steps from the major cities of Whitby and Oshawa, Ontario, Canada.
