When the Canada Adventure Seeker crew discovered that the world's largest coffee pot and cup were on my route home from Moose Jaw they asked me to stop and check it out for them.

Serving someone a cup of coffee is a symbol of warmth and hospitality. This got me curious about the Town of Davidson Saskatchewan, so I decided to have a look around. As it turns out, there is more to the Town of Davidson than a really big coffee pot, a lot more actually.

Davidson is on Highway 11, the main north-south highway in Saskatchewan. It is midway between Regina and Saskatoon making it a perfect rest stop. It is also a short 40-minute drive to Lake Diefenbaker and Last Mountain Lake. The town as several attractions of its own. When combined with its central location it makes a perfect home base for exploring the province. I would quite happily plan a weekend getway to the Town of Davidson Saskatchewan.

The Town of Davidson in Saskatchewan was found in 1902 and is named after Colonel Andrew Duncan Davidson. Long before social media ever existed, grain elevators were the pace to be to get the latest updates and gossip from the neighbours. Farmers would bring their grain to get weighed and to sell it. While they waited they would sit in the office area and chat while enjoying a cup of coffee.

With a population of just over 1,000 people, the Town of Davidson is the ultimate rural, small town Saskatchewan experience. For such a tiny community, they sure boast a lot of attractions. They have a health care center and hospital, a library, several parks and playgrounds, a walking trail, a 9 hole grass green golf course, a beautiful outdoor swimming pool, a campground, a skating and curling rink and lots of other sport amenities. Their downtown includes art galleries, clothing and furniture stores and a destination restaurant.

The community does have a warm and hospitable feeling. They seem to take great pride in their town and have created beautiful little parks throughout, like this one. I wonder if Bob Crowley owned this old truck.

The World's Largest Coffee Pot is a symbol of Davidson's warmth and hospitality. Standing over 7-meters (24-feet) high, the coffee pot is visible for a long time as it beacons travellers to stop and have a rest.

The iron Metis Fiddler and Red River Cart sculpture pay tribute to the history of the Metis in the region. During the fur trade era, people would gather during the winter and hold dances. A favourite traditional dance of the time was the Red River Jig. The sculpture is in the same day use area as the world's largest coffee pot along highway. Highway 11 in Saskatchewan is also known as the Louis Riel Trail.

Davidson Saskatchewan has a 5km long Centennial Walking trail. It seems to be enjoyed by the community as I saw a young family out for a bike ride. The trailhead is at the day use area where the World's Largest Coffee Pot is. Further down the trail, near the sports facilities is a fun feature the local library created. There are many signs along the route. Each sign is a page or two of a children's story encouraging young readers and physical fitness at the same time.

The Town of Davidson is a very quiet and peaceful community, or at least it was when I passed through on a late Sunday afternoon. For such a small community, they have a number of interesting businesses and parks in their downtown.

Guan Davidson Restaurant seems to be a popular place. Having hardly seen a soul during my wanderings seeing 2 vehicles pull into town and stop at the restaurant within a few minutes of each other got me thinking that Guan's dinner destination. I discovered that it is highly rated and is recognized for outstanding Chinese Cuisine. It is fairly common for small towns in the Canadian prairies to have good Chinese food restaurants. Having stopped at the Subway in town, I am sad to say that I missed out on this experience, but I will fix that next time.

What makes it even better is that is mere meters away from the Davidson Campground.
