Located just off the QEII between Edmonton and Calgary, Dark Woods Brewing in Innisfail has officially become our new favourite highway rest stop. Instead of getting caught up in the traffic at Gasoline Alley, we simply bypass it and head straight to Innisfail to refuel properly.
Dark Woods is more than a brewery. They roast their coffee in-house every week, serve hearty breakfasts starting at 7 AM, and offer lunch and dinner in a warm, mountain-meets-western taproom built for gathering. Set in the middle of some of Alberta’s richest grain country, you can taste the local focus here. They work closely with Alberta growers and make as much as possible in-house, keeping it rooted in the community.
Family friendly. Community minded. Adventure approved.
And yes… they also have a Gasoline Alley location. Who knew?

Warm wood, alpine lodge energy, and a space that feels equally at home after a mountain hike or a prairie road trip.

The DW Smash Burger stacks up Alberta beef patties with melty cheese, their house-made sauce, and that sweet Morning Wood onion jam that takes it over the top. Crispy edges, messy in the best way. Add the fries. Trust us.

Pizzly Pale Ale in the glass. Bright and juicy on the first sip, hops hitting just right, finishing smooth. Crisp, refreshing, and perfect for a pit stop on any adventure.

Roasted fresh in-house weekly. Built for mountain mornings, early starts, and long Alberta drives. Ski Bum roast is currently fuelling our adventures.

Even the bathrooms have personality. A female bear casually sitting on the toilet, reading a newspaper in the woods? Unexpected. Slightly hilarious. Completely on brand.

We grabbed both the Morning Wood Amber Ale and the Pizzly Pale Ale to take home. Perfect for sipping on the road or back at camp.

Close-up of the DW Smash Burger. The patty gets a nice crisp on the edges while staying juicy inside. That house-made Morning Wood onion jam really takes it over the top. Pure Alberta comfort food.

Snagged one of their ball caps to bring a bit of Dark Woods home. Apparel, branded gear, and maybe even the future official coffee of the eh Canada Adventure Seekers Club… just putting it out there.
