Slack Slough is a wonderful place to stretch during a road trip as it is right off the HWY near Gasoline Alley in Alberta. This wetland is considered a sensitive and important wildlife location. From spring to fall, you'll be able to enjoy many different kinds of birds who use this pond for various reasons. There used to be a viewing platform, but that was removed and this area is now unmaintained. There are a couple small trails in the grass you can wander to try to get closer to the water, but it becomes quite spongy and the cattails are tall. The future of this beautiful birding area is in question as development in the area encroaches. Lets hope this slough gets to remain untouched, as it really was teaming with birds compared to nearby similar water holes.
