Birch Lake is a small backcountry body of water. Located west of Sundre and Caroline in central Alberta Canada. This is a popular trout lake as it is stocked with Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout as well as Brook Trout. This is a foot access lake only, no vehicles are permitted down onto the ice. There is a tiny parking lot available, and a large sloped, icy hill to trek up and down to the lake.

It was a quick last minute decision before sunset, to head to Birch Lake with the kids and a friend from another country

As we scanned around the frozen Birch Lake, there were a handful of other groups trying their luck at ice fishing. Slow day all day according to other fisherman.

Wearing her new sweater from Christmas and her dad's snow pants, out here looking like a professional ice fisherwoman. I love this shot.

Definitely be careful while ice fishing always. Definitely on the ponds and lakes with aeration systems. We have a lot of fish die in the summer and winters due to oxygen levels. The aerator helps keep them healthy and alive. Watch for thin ice

As we all learn more about whirling disease, it's best to wash your gear in between lakes. Do your best to slow this parasite down

Located in the backcountry (our crownland) you'll find the Birch Lake Conservation Site. This lake is day use only, with foot access.

As we were packing up to leave, the sun was setting. It looked beautiful against the hill between the lake and parking lot. It's quite icy coming and going, so be careful!
