AHOY ALL BUCCANEERS!
Esquimalt Buccaneer Days will be held at Esquimalt BC's Archie Browning Sport Centre, Curling Club and Bullen Park from May 12, 2023, to May 14, 2023, 3 PM to 9 PM each day.
This is a fun community and family event with something for all ages. Over 20 community organizations take part:
Come and enjoy the Midway, Pancake Breakfast,
Market Place, Buccaneer Dance, Community Booths & Displays, the Children's Pirate Den, Food Vendors and don't forget the Parade on Saturday Morning. The parade starts at 10 AM and travels along Esquimalt Road from Dominion at Admirals.
Tickets
Buccaneer Days is free to attend, however for the Midway Carnival rides and games the price is $35 for the day for unlimited amusement park rides and fun.
Stepping back in time to Buccaneer Days earliest beginnings:
In 1939, Esquimalt began holding a May Queen celebration. this evolved into Esquimalt Days and eventually, in 1966, became Buccaneer Days. The town turned out in naval and pirate attire, vying for prizes for the best costume. The citizens of Esquimalt were also awakened at a very early hour by a loudspeaker mounted atop a van calling "Wakey, Wakey!".
While the van loudspeaker is no more, this event has no problem in attracting the crowds!

Tian Jin Festival, affectionately called the TJ Fest for short, is a celebration of the cultural diversity of the Chinese community in Vancouver, with live music and lots of great, authentic Taiwanese street food. Some of the food items this year will include salt and pepper chicken, savoury Chinese buns, Taiwanese pork belly hamburgers, pepper pork pastries, and even traditional Taiwanese Bento Boxes will be on offer.
TJ Fest takes place across two blocks at the Tian-Jin Temple at 3426 Smith Avenue, in Burnaby BC, and this year's event will be even bigger than ever, with expanded offerings set up in an adjacent park featuring free activities for children and families.
This is a free event taking place on Saturday, May 6 and Sunday May 7, from 11 AM to 4 PM on both days. In addition to the food, guests can look forward to performances and an artisanal community market.
Although most of the event is about Taiwanese culture, and Taoism, many other cultures are at the festival as well. This is best seen through the variety of live performances. There is an outdoor stage where musicians and dancers provide entertainment. Some performances are traditional and culturally significant, so TJ Fest is a good place to learn about a multitude of cultures. The stage area also has several roundtables with chairs and stools, and there are more places to eat out on the street.
