A stark, industrial contrast to the ancient rock formations. Nestled right at the mouth of the lower gorge, this active, heavy-duty railway bridge cuts straight across the ravine, adding a moody, gritty character to the wilderness scenery. Spanning high over Stoney Creek just downstream from the Lower Punchbowl Falls, this bridge carries active CPKC (Canadian Pacific Kansas City) freight trains along the base of the escarpment. The massive steel and concrete infrastructure anchors itself right into the rocky valley walls. Standing near the Bruce Trail looking up, the bridge frames the creek bed and perfectly highlights the intersection of Hamilton's industrial heritage and its raw natural beauty.
