This gem of a campground is found near Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. With over 400 sites, there are all kinds of options! They offer group camping right near the water, seasonal sites, tent sites, and large trailer/RV sites as well. Located on Rattlesnake Lake, also known as Sauder Reservoir, it is a wonderful place to swim on the sandy beach, go fishing for a few different species of fish, enjoy some paddleboarding, and many other water sports.
Additionally, you also find a water course from here on Rattlesnake Lake! It is seperate to the Golden Sheaf Campground. To access this aqua course, you must check in at the Golden Sheaf Park office for day-use if you are not camping, then head down to the beach and purchase tickets on site. Life jackets of various sizes are available. You must swim out to the course, there is no dock out yet. If you're camping at Golden Sheaf, you will receive a discount to use the fun water course. It was about $20/hr if you are day-use entry, or around $10/hr if you're camping there.
The lake can get quite busy and loud with boats passing back and forth with water skiers and other fun pull behind water boards and tubes, as well as seadoos. Just be sure to give space and don't disturb the beach swimming areas. Watch out for others and be safe on the water.
I was horrified when I arrived at my campsite to see this mess left by the previous campers. Absolutely should have been cleaned up before I arrived, but more importantly it just should not be there. Firepits are not garbage cans. Please clean up...
I was horrified when I arrived at my campsite to see this mess left by the previous campers. Absolutely should have been cleaned up before I arrived, but more importantly it just should not be there. Firepits are not garbage cans. Please clean up after yourself everywhere you camp. I cleaned it up myself, threw it all away at the nearby garbage bin, and enjoyed the rest of my stay.
My site was literally covered in bits of garbage. With over 400 sites, it would be hard to keep up with people like this. I personally think people should be banned for leaving campsites in this condition. Again, I just cleaned it up and carried...

As the sun got higher in the sky, I knew the jetskis and big boats would be out soon. So headed back to the beach. This lake gets quite active during the day.
There are multiple places to access the lake in Golden Sheaf Park if you have a small hand launch water toy. I used the area near the group use area as no one was there.
