Griffith Woods Natural Environment Park is quite big, at a size of 93 hectares, and has a long string of both paved and unpaved trails winding throughout this beautiful area. Open year round, with daily hours of 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Convieniently, all trails here are considered easy, while they are unmaintained in the winter, they are well packed down as this is quite a busy park for families and photographers.
Donated to the city of Calgary in 1998 by Betty and Wilbur Griffith. Thr combination of trees that make up this forest is quite unique and they say only one other of this kind has been found. And that one is in Jasper National Park. There is a large wildlife population, with clear evidence of that as you spot all the criss-crossing tracks in the snow. You'll also spot interpretive signs along the paved pathway as you wander through this Calgary gem.
