I like the contrast between the old and new construction. Maintaining the character and the original architecture while marrying it with the sleek and modern exterior. The hotel can be accessed from this entrance; however, its actual front door is around the corner on Donald Street. There are several restaurants neigbhouring the Alt. The one that can just be seen here is Brown's Social House.

This is the view from our room, looking out over Winnipeg's Exchange District. The Exchange District is a national historic site and the city's arts and cultural district. This area is home to loads of restaurants, bars, and boutique shops. As the arts and cultural district is home to the Manitoba Theatre Warehouse, the Manitoba Museum, the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame and the Manitoba Concert Hall.

The staff at the Alt Hotel in Winnipeg have excellent customer service skills. I found them to be very helpful. Knowing that we were in town for the weekend to celebrate a birthday, the staff dropped off a card and small gift that was in our room when we checked in.

The Merchant Kitchen is attached to the Alt Hotel. On game night, it is very busy, so reservations are recommended. However, once the game is underway, all the restaurants in the area clear out so finding a seat isn't an issue. The Merchant Kitchen focus is on serving elevated street food which is something they do very well.

The Canada Life Centre is home to the Winnipeg Jets NHL hockey team and the Manitoba Moose hockey team that plays in the American Hockey League. The arena is only 250m away from the main entrance of the Alt Hotel. If planning on taking in a hockey game or a concert, then the Alt Hotel is the perfect choice.
