The Calmar Bakery in the Town of Calmar Alberta has been my favourite bakery for as long as I can remember. As a child we used to stop here on the way out to Pigeon Lake. The fruit bars were my grandmothers’ favourites and the chocolate donuts. Honestly, the chocolate donuts are still my favourite. I have yet to find a better one and I score every bakery I pass in my quest to find one that will out do Calmar's. I like the Calmar Bakery so much I once rode my bicycle over 100km to get one. Yes, there are shorter ways to get there but I made it my treat for doing the ride.

Calmar donuts are famous in the Edmonton region. They work with local suppliers and get up early to bake fresh goods each day. Fresh baking always smells fantastic; however the Calmar Bakery still smells the best to me.

The outside of Calmar Bakery has changed very little over the years, other than a little refresh here and there it is basically the same bakery that it always has been. Yesterday's Treasures is the shop next to the bakery. It is filled with antiques and collectibles. They even have some old-fashioned candy too.

The Calmar Bakery has been serving happy customers since 1957. Although it has changed hands over the years, the main recipes have been unchanged for over seventy years. The current owners have respected the tradition and reputation of the bakery and have added new items to the menu that are in keeping with the character of the place.

The Calmar Bakery sells locally made jams and honeys as well. What could be better then fresh bread with home made jam, a good cup of coffee and a donut.

I love the new blue counter in the Calmar Bakery. This was part of the refresh that the current owners did. They also change the layout so that they could display more items and better serve the lines of customers that come in each and every day.

Todays' selection are a Pecan Caramel Chocolate, traditional glazed and a maple donut. Even though I made in by 11:00am, they had already sold out of the chocolate donuts for the day. Although I was disappointed to not get my favourite one today,...

Although I was disappointed to not get my favourite one today, I was still happy because I LOVE all Calmar Bakery donuts.
