The Calmar Medical Clinic building was built in 2018. I like that even though the building is new, it was constructed much like the historic buildings on Edmonton's Whyte Ave. It is a charming building. The blade cute blade signs overhanging the sidewalk are fantastic too. They made it easy for pedestrians to see what businesses are in the building. I wish more businesses would do this.

The current art on display is by Aboud Salman. He was born in Syria and fled during the war, first to Lebanon and then eventually making his way to Edmonton in 2017 as refugees along with his wife and four sons. In 2023, Aboud Salman and two of his sons became Canadian Citizens. Since arriving in Canada, Aboud has been working to re-establish himself as an international recognized and celebrated artist.

Aboud Salman has exhibited his art in fifteen countries across Europe and the Middle East. A documentary has been made about him and his art and he has written four books as well as publishing many articles in international magazines. Aboud has won many awards as well and now he is an Edmontonian. What an incredible journey and life he has had. How fortunate is a small town like Calmar (population 2,000+) to be able to count themselves amongst places like Italy, France, Germany, and the United Arab Emirates that have held an Aboud Salman exhibit.
