In Edmonton there is a place known as Happy Beer Street. It is more than just one street as it spans 22-blocks south of Whyte Ave and along 99 Street. There seems to be an ever-growing number of craft breweries that have chosen to call Happy Beer Street home. Why wouldn't you really? Happy Beer Street is home to nine craft breweries including Alberta's 4th oldest craft brewery, Alley Kat. It is also home to Edmonton's youngest craft brewery, Ale Architect. Other breweries that call this place home are Blind Enthusiasm, Bent Stick Brewing, The Monolith, Odd Company, Omen Brewing, Longroof Brewing Co, and Edmonton's location for Sea Change Brewing Company. Along with some of our friends we have been slowly working our way through Edmonton’s craft beer scene and decided to have a Sociable Saturday at Happy Beer Street.
In addition to craft breweries there are several other businesses in the area that are known as 'Friends of Happy Beer Street'. These include restaurants like Farrow who make sandwiches, coffee, and baked goods. Luna Mexican Restaurant which is among the best Mexican restaurants in Edmonton. The Grindstone Comedy Theatre and Bistro and Strathcona Spirits are also among the Friends of Happy Beer Street.
Although they are technically all competitors, they also love to work together to compete against the big macro-breweries. Additionally, they love to collaborate to drive tourism to the area by hosting events like bottle launches, food trucks and patio parties, even comedy shows, live music and hops plant sales.

Ale Architect is Edmonton's newest craft brewery. In fact, it is only 9 months old having opened its doors in April 2023. It has already established itself for serving excellent pizza and quality craft beers. Being immensely popular we couldn't get in at first because it was full. Fortunately, when we were able to find a few tables when we came back later in the evening after the dinner pizza crowd was leaving.

I love this comfortable seating area at Ale Architect. As to be expected, this spot was occupied all night. Therefore, if you are hoping to sit here and to enjoy quality craft beers and delicious pizza you had better get here early.

Ale Architect serves Birch & Bear Pizza. The pizza menu features a variety of vegan and vegetarian pizzas, aka "The Birch". They also serve pizzas with meat from "The Bear" menu. We were already full when we arrived so we didn't try the pizza, however everybody there that night talked about how good the pizza was. It did look delicious, so I will add it to my places to come back to list.

Sea Change Brewing Company's mott is Great Beer from Right Here. Naturally, when you are in Canada during the winter, the TV will be playing a hockey Game. This games features Edmonton's nemesis team, the Calgary Flames playing the Blackhawks. The Flames won that game 1-0, but the Edmonton Oilers played earlier, and they won their 16th game in a row 4-1 over the Predators!

Captain Cutless is a salty Watermelon Sour brewed by Sea Change. This is described as being tangy, tart and super refreshing. I didn't try this one, but I do like the can. Craft Beer cans are often a work of art on their own.

Apparently, the best place to stay in the Canadian Rockies is Shiddy Lodge and Distillery??? Not sure, I'd book there. The hat, Shiddy of Champions is a reference to the City of Edmonton's former tagline, the City of Champions. Anyhow, what is Shiddy? Shiddy's Distilling is a sister company to Sea Change that specializes in sparkling vodka beverages. All of Shiddy's beverages are gluten free and made with natural ingredients. They are expected to open their own location on Happy Beer Street in 2024.

We have eaten at Luna before, so I thought I would share it just in case you get hungry during your Happy Beer Street adventure and a looking for something other than pizza. Luna Cocina Mexican Restaurant is rated as one of the top Mexican restaurants in the city. This is THE place to go for authentic Mexican Cuisine. This is the Pastel Azteca; a Mexican Lasagna. It is so good! A Mexican Lasagna is layers of seasoned chicken, poblano chili, zucchini stacked between tortillas.
