Waterfront cottage rentals can be difficult to find in Newfoundland and Labrador Canada.
I was very excited and honoured to stay at the restored pond front Murphy Cottage this past weekend. The cozy Airbnb vacation property was located in the rural outport community of Brigus South on the islands Southern Shore. In fact, the cabin is approximately an hour drive from the capital city of St. John’s. The charming and stylishly decorated retreat is worth the NL road trip around the bay.
The Murphy Cottage was built in the 1970’s and belonged to the owners grandparents. The vacation home sat on a beautiful wooded private piece of land on a pond. I felt fully immersed in nature and rose in the dark to catch sunrise over the pond. Thankfully, the early alarm clock was with it as I enjoyed my morning coffee on the dock while watching the sun rise over the lake. I found beauty in the calls of the loons and the mist rising off the early morning water. There was no traffic or noise pollution - just pure wild nature. It was the perfect location for bird watching, pedal boating and outdoor fun. Additionally, the outdoor fire pit offered a cozy wood heat while stargazing in the clear skies.
