Located in the Niagara Gorge, stairways lead to four kilometers of rugged hiking paths that wind through an old growth Carolinian Forest. This moderately challenging route is a popular area for birding, snowshoeing, hiking and bouldering.The rugged terrain of the Glen, with its rock formations and steep cliffs, offers a challenge to hikers as they navigate the trails. The Niagara Glen Trail is open all winter, but not maintained. The lack of snow on our visit provided the perfect opportunity for us to easily explore the trails. The staircases and stone stairs can become quite slippery when wet, so visitors are reminded that hiking on these trails is at their own risk. As we descended the staircase down into the Niagara Gorge, I stopped for a moment to admire the view from this spot. This was one of many amazing views along the Niagara Glen Trail in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.
The large boulders scattered around the Niagara Glen are relics of the rapid erosion that occurred along the Niagara River in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.
Throughout the trail we came across a number of signs with numbers and symbols. The top marker on the tree indicates that we were on the Main loop for this portion of our hike.
This particular location on the Niagara Glen Trail was a very popular spot for fishing. We passed a number of individuals patiently waiting for their big catch!
For visitors that may find the stairway down into the gorge challenging, there is a nice trail along the top which provides some beautiful views of the area.
This is one of the staircases that brings visitors up and down the Niagara Glen Trail. It is a more of gradual climb compared to the steep, metal staircase we encountered at the start of our journey.
