A Perfect Half-Day Walking Tour in Halifax, Nova Scotia (6KM Loop from the Cruise Port)
Halifax, Nova Scotia offers the perfect blend of history, culture, and ocean views - and you can see so much of it on foot! During our cruise stop, we set off on a 6 KM self-guided walking loop from the Halifax Cruise Port, taking in some of the city's most iconic spots.
Here’s how we spent a relaxed and rewarding half-day exploring Halifax:
1. Old Burying Ground
Just a short walk from the port, this fascinating cemetery dates back to the 1700s. It’s filled with weathered gravestones, rich history, and a quiet, reflective atmosphere. A must-see for history buffs!
2. Saint Mary’s Cathedral Basilica
This beautiful Gothic Revival church is one of the oldest Roman Catholic cathedrals in Canada. The soaring spire and stunning interior architecture were a highlight of our walk.
3. Halifax Public Gardens
This Victorian-era garden is a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city. We strolled the pathways, admired the flowers, and took a short break by the duck pond. Free to enter and a great spot for photos!
4. Halifax Harbourwalk + Tidal Beacon
We made our way back to the waterfront via the scenic Harbourwalk, where we enjoyed ocean views, public art installations, and the modern Tidal Beacon sculpture — a visual representation of the Bay of Fundy tides.
5. Ice Cream at The Fog Company
To wrap up the loop, we treated ourselves to delicious ice cream at The Fog Company. Very unique! It was the perfect way to cool down before heading back to the ship.
We also visited the Halifax Citadel & took the Ferry to Dartmouth & back. *separate videos
Total Distance: 6KM / ~3.7 Miles
Mostly flat and easy terrain
Loop starts and ends at the Halifax Cruise Port
Whether you're visiting Halifax on a cruise or exploring on your own, this walk is a fantastic way to take in the city’s charm at your own pace.
