Every February, participating cafés, restaurants, and chocolatiers compete for the coveted titles of YYC’s Best Hot Chocolate, Best Spirited Hot Chocolate, and special Cup That Runneth Over Award. Calgarians can sip a variety of hot cocoas and determine the blend that roasts them all!
$1 - $3 from every cup sold supports Calgary Meals on Wheels, thereby directly providing nutritious meals to Calgarians.

This special themed event at Okanagan Science center will take place as part of the Vernon Winter Carnival Line up and requires a minimum of 2 participants.
You and your partner, family or friends need to work together to figure out what has happened to "Professor Bunsen" the lead scientist in the scenario. You need to follow clues around the center and solve the mystery.
Minimum of 2 participants- maximum of 8.
Prebooking is required.

Each day of Vernon Winter Carnival the Okanagan Science will post clues on their website. You will have until 4 pm each day to answer the clue and possibly win a golden ticket. Clues can be entered online or in person at the science center.
Each golden ticket will be entered into a draw to win an amazing prize....a free private event at the science center where you and your friends or family The Golden Ticket have your own private event after hours with behind the scenes activities, meet the animals, and more (within current COVID regulations).

Last year this event had won the Vernon Winter Carnival Award for a best outdoor event. Downtown Vernon Gold Rush is the ultimate family scavenger hunt all across Downtown Vernon! Rush to figure out the clues for a chance to win a real gold nugget! The clues are brain teasers, so you may need to include family, friends, and maybe even a google search or two.
All answers are found in Downtown Vernon, so you don't have to travel far!

The annual Chili cookoff has returned after taking a year off due to COVID-19!
For the first time ever the chili cookoff competition will be taking place for the whole of Vernon Winter Carnival. During the entire carnival length head into participating restaurants, order their chili, and give it a try! Don't forget to ask for a ballot at your first location so you can vote on the BEST CHILI in town! There is also a chance for you to win a prize by visiting all the participating locations across Vernon.

Ice on Whyte returns January 27 to February 6, 2022 in Dr. Wilbert McIntyre Park

Ice on Whyte is a delightfully fun-filled winter experience. When you visit the event, you would find yourself surrounded by the best of winter. The ice carving competition is one of only three ice carving competitions in Canada. Be inspired and amazed as up to 10 teams of professional artists work to create jaw-dropping icy splendors.

The competition will be held in a tent to control the temperature and protect the sculptures from the outside environment. Be amazed by blocks of ice that have been transformed into masterpieces of art.

Create Your Own Ice Carving

After viewing the ice sculptures, take a shot at creating your own small ice carving. We run both L’il & Big Chipper classes for people of all ages. In the evening the grounds are lit with colourful accent lights. Visit the ice bar tent for a locally crafted beverage and stroll around the park taking in this feast for your eyes.
