A Rich History At Enniskillen

The conservation area is not only a place of natural wonder but also of historical significance. One notable feature is the remnants of the Moorey Grist Mill, which once operated in the area from its construction in 1874 until it was dismantled in 1956. The mill utilized the constant flow of water from the Bowmanville Creek, which continues to run through the property today. Though the mill itself is no longer standing, the earthen dam that once held back the creek to create a millpond still remains, offering a glimpse into the area’s past.

Enniskillen Conservation Area is a perfect blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue. Visitors can explore the tranquil wetlands, listen to the sounds of the creek, and reflect on the area's rich heritage. Whether you're walking the trails, observing wildlife, or learning about the history of the Moorey Grist Mill, the conservation area provides an enriching experience for all who visit.
