Peterborough’s Canadian Canoe Museum on the Trent Severn Waterway
For over 25 years, the Canadian Canoe Museum has been recognized as the global steward of the largest and most significant collection of canoes, kayaks, and traditional paddled watercraft. Located at 2077 Ashburnham Drive in Peterborough, Ontario, the museum has recently opened a stunning new facility along the scenic Trent Severn Waterway.
With more than 600 unique vessels, this unparalleled collection has been curated to reflect Canada’s heritage and Indigenous traditions. Visitors are immersed in the stories that shaped the waterways of our nation. The museum's new location—just steps from the historic Peterborough Liftlocks—was thoughtfully chosen to provide an authentic connection to the water.
As part of the vibrant Trent Severn Waterway, which was recently featured in the New York Times’ “52 Places To Go in 2025,” the museum offers an enriching cultural and recreational experience. Moreover, the surrounding area invites guests to explore canoe routes, walking paths, and other historical landmarks.
Not only can artifacts be viewed up close, but educational programs and events are regularly hosted to inspire new generations. In fact, a renewed passion for paddle sports and heritage can be sparked here.
Undeniably, a visit to the Canadian Canoe Museum belongs on every traveler’s Ontario itinerary. Truly, it offers a journey into Canada's spirit, seen through the lens of watercraft and exploration.
