We visited Pyramid Island and the Parks Canada red chairs on the Overlook Loop trail during a recent daytrip to Jasper National Park. The area around Pyramid Lake and the Pyramid Lake Bench was untouched by the summer of 2024 Jasper Wildfire Complex. As such, it is as well treed and beautiful as ever!
Pyramid Lake Island and the short hike to the red chairs are a perfect excursion for those looking for an easy and a short outdoor adventure. The wonderful thing about this area is that you still get the full Rocky Mountain experience with the magnificent views and just enough wilderness. On a warm winter's day with a snow-covered trail you also get to enjoy how wonderful the fresh alpine scented Rocky Mountain air smells.

Pyramid Island is connected by a short pathway and a long bridge. It is such a beautiful place to visit and to just enjoy the moment. Pyramid Island Bridge is one of Jasper's iconic photo spots!

Pyramid Lake's ice was thick enough to walk on during our visit, so we enjoyed a little stroll on the lake to admire the views from a different angle.

Winter at Pyramid Lake in Jasper offers adventure seekers a wide variety of outdoor activities. Popular activities include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, fat biking and sleigh rides. We opted to walking on water today. Equipment rentals are available at Pyramid Lake Resort and in the Jasper Townsite. Be sure to always check the ice conditions before venturing out on the lake.

The Overlook Loop Trail in Jasper is a 6km trail located on Pyramid Bench. The trail has 75m of elevation gain. It typically takes 1-2 hours to hike. Instead of hiking the full loop we just hiked to the Parks Canada red chairs. Including wandering around Pyramid Island and the trek to the chairs we covered 2.5km. This took us 47 minutes including time to admire the views and we gained a total of 34m of elevation.
