The Spout Overland Winter Snowshoe Trail in Newfoundland and Labrador Canada
The spout overland Winter snowshoe trail in Newfoundland and Labrador Canada is a bucket-list snowshoeing adventure to add to your Canadian travel list if the island weather conditions permit! The iconic NL sea spout is an ocean powered sea geyser powered by the tides of the North Atlantic along the scenic Southern Shore on the Avalon Peninsula. The natural attraction is accessible only by a difficult and lengthy 21.7 km hike along the East Coast Trail. However, when conditions and temperatures are right in Winter and the bogs and ponds safely freeze over, adventure seekers may take a short-cut via the spout overland snowshoe route. The trek is 12.6km in and out and I highly recommend snowshoes and crampons as the descent to the geyser can get very icy! The overland route is not clearly marked and it is very easy to get lost when crossing the barrens, especially if it is windy and snow is drifting!!
