The Battery - St. John’s Newfoundland Canada
The battery is a charming historic neighbourhood within the Capital City of St. John’s Newfoundland Canada that sits on the steep jagged cliffs at the entrance to St. John’s harbour. The cliffside roads are extremely narrow with unique old colourful traditional homes lining the way, offering wonderful views of downtown St. John’s and The Narrows. The urban walk is a must-do attraction when visiting St. John’s NL Canada and I recommend parking at Signal Hill National Historic Site and walking down the hill as vehicle parking is very limited.
Take the Outer Battery Road up to the scenic lookout at Fort Waldegrave whereby visitors are greeted with unparalleled views of the North Atlantic Ocean, The Battery, The Narrows and downtown St. John’s. Furthermore, at the viewpoint a large cannon sits on a mount overlooking the Narrows and was used in the early war days to guard and protect the historic city. Don’t forget to take your camera to capture all of the beauty and culture in this iconic Newfoundland neighbourhood.
