I've visited this ranch several times over the years. It's a great place to visit. On this occasion the buildings were not open but visitors are permitted to roam around the site and enjoy the location anyway. The dining room was open however.
Cornelius O'Keefe arrived in the area in 1867 and built the church, general store, post office and other buildings. In the 1880's he moved his family from a log cabin into the mansion. This home was opened as a heritage site in 1967.
The City of Vernon now owns the property. It is often used for weddings and receptions. Schools and tours can book a time outside of regular summer hours.
As you travel on Hwy 97N outside of Vernon, you will discover O'Keefe Ranch. Be sure to check with their website as they have various activities throughout the year.
There are a number of heritage buildings at O'Keefe Ranch. On the day of my visit, the buildings were not open to the public. Always check their website to confirm opening times.
This is some of the scenery as you wander around the property at the O'Keefe Ranch. I believe the house in the distance is the Schubert House. Weddings are also held on the lawn of this house.
