The Hope Slide - Viewpoint
On January 9, 1965, part of a mountain came down 19 km east of Hope BC. It destroyed 3 km of the Hope - Princeton Hwy and killed 4 people. The rubble was 70 metres thick in places.

Despite appearances, there were several visitors at the Hope Slide viewpoint this morning. Heavy fog wiped out many landscape features and lent an even more somber air to the spot.

Big boulders and smaller rocks make up the landscape. It seems hard to believe the Nicolum Valley was roughly 70 metres below. The slide destroyed 3 km of highway, along with 4 lives.

We can't see for many feet before the fog obscures the landscape. Some trees and shrubs have managed to grow among the debris of the 1965 Hope Slide.

It was a bit eerie being at this historic site with the heavy fog obscuring the surrounding mountains. All we could see was the ruble left from the slide many years earlier. The sun was barely visible up in the sky. However, it won't be long...
It was a bit eerie being at this historic site with the heavy fog obscuring the surrounding mountains. All we could see was the ruble left from the slide many years earlier. The sun was barely visible up in the sky. However, it won't be long until the fog is burned off and all is revealed. By that time I'll be many miles away.

Dense fog prevented us from seeing the mountain side from which the rocks and debris fell. All we were left with was the rocks and boulders which covered the roadway buried deep underneath.
