South Alberta Parks & Trails

The Carthew-Alderson Trail is considered a challenging and difficult route popular for hiking, wilderness camping, horseback riding and backpacking. The trail can be, either, a very long day hike or a two day backpacking adventure. Long day hikers should be experienced and very fit.

Waterton

During the summer months the Bow is a destination for such activities as tubing, kayaking, rafting, canoeing, birdwatching and fishing. On almost any given day in the summer there are people floating down the Bow through Calgary.

The North Fork Wilderness Campground is located on HWY 510 just north of the community of Pincher Creek in southern Alberta Canada. A wonderful place to camp and enjoy some watersports along the fork in the Oldman River and Crowsnest River. 8 FCFS sites are available.

The trail follows Lineman Creek most of the way through a forest environment. As the elevation increases the forest thins out and the trail breaks out onto a mountain slope with views of the falls.

Waterton

Table Mountain is a 10km in and back summit hike in Castle Provincial Park. Located in southern Alberta. This hike/scramble takes about 3-5 hours to complete depending on skill level.

Lions Park is one of the more forested parks in the community connecting to a good trail system. Lions Park is well maintained with sitting benches, groves of cottonwood trees, large grass lawns, picnic areas and information signs.

The pathway in the Sunshine Lake area, the lake itself, the large sprawling grass lawns, the sightseeing benches and the Happy Trails Pathway provide an opportunity for many activities in High River, Alberta.

High River

The Bertha Lake Trail highlight destinations include Bertha Falls and Bertha Lake. Both are accessed from the same trail. The trailhead is located near the campground in the Waterton Townsite.

The Erratic Rock, today, is a tourism attraction in Okotoks, Alberta, Canada. There is a walking trail leading out to the rock. There are information signs located along the route. The trail then loops behind Big Rock before it loops back to the parking lot. Short and sweet.

George Moss Park is an urban community park in the SE community of Ogden, Alberta, Canada near Calgary. Green space, mature trees, and a new basketball court make this park a great neighborhood meeting place.

The trail measures 2 kilometres long (there and back) and is considered an easy going route with very little elevation gain. And, because of the easy access and the well maintained trail, the Blakiston Falls Trail draws crowds and is enjoyed by all ages and fitness levels.

Nearby there are baseball diamonds, washrooms and a playground for children. The Newcastle Beach Recreation Area is ideal for group functions, tournaments, festivals and events. There is a camping area for groups who have booked the baseball diamonds for tournaments.
