Ontario Crown Land At Monarch Point Conservation Reserve

Point Petre Part of Monarch Point Conservation Reserve is one of Ontario’s most meaningful natural spaces, newly protected to preserve its rare shoreline beauty and ecological value. After a full environmental assessment and evaluation were completed—and after listening carefully to feedback from Ontarians—the 3,971-acre (1,607 ha) area once known as the Ostrander Crown Land Block and the Point Petre Provincial Wildlife Area was officially regulated as a Conservation Reserve under the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act, 2006.
Moreover, this new designation strengthens long-term protection for wildlife, habitats, and the unique ecosystems surrounding Lake Ontario. As a result, the Monarch Point Conservation Reserve is now recognized as a vital sanctuary where natural heritage will be safeguarded for future generations. While conservation reserves usually experience lower visitor traffic than provincial parks, respectful public access is still permitted.
Furthermore, Monarch Point offers exceptional outdoor opportunities. Hiking, birdwatching, and responsible hunting can be enjoyed across this diverse landscape. In addition, visitors are encouraged to explore its rugged shoreline, rare alvar formations, and peaceful Crown Land forests.
Above all, anyone visiting should treat this Conservation Reserve with great care. Sensitive plants, wildlife, and shoreline features must be protected by staying on durable surfaces and packing out all waste.
