Most of the extreme mountain biking destinations are located in or near, the Rocky Mountain region of Alberta. Plenty of downhill single track routes in the region - some with dirt jumps, rock drops, log rails and a very good chance of running into mud, mosquitoes and amazing scenery.
Community Mountain Biking
Most of the major and mid size communities in the province of Alberta have created a network of paved, shale, dirt and/or gravel bike paths for exploring and moving around the community. The mountain bike paths tend to be level, easy going, well signed and are ideal for sightseeing the community. Some of the major mountain biking communities in Alberta include rental bike shops, lessons, trail maps, mountain biking clubs and equipment. Some mountain biking communities have created mountain bike parks.
Popular Mountain Biking Destinations
There are paved family oriented bike paths and wilderness biking trail routes in Kananaskis Country, Banff National Park and the Jasper National Park. North of the Rocky Mountains, in the community of Grande Prairie, there are opportunities for biking in Muskoseepi Park. Popular mountain biking trail routes in the Central Alberta region include the Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Area and Whitemud Park in Edmonton; the Willmore Wilderness Park and Sulphur Gates Trails near Grande Cache and the Bighorn Trail and William A. Switzer Park near Hinton. Other mountain biking communities in Central Alberta include Nordegg, and Red Deer. Popular mountain biking destinations in the South Alberta region include the River Valley Wilderness Park near Fort Macleod, the Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park located southeast of Medicine Hat and the Waterton Lakes National Park in the southwest corner of the province.
