During my visit, I learned that the park was named after Walter Baker, a well-regarded member of Parliament and a dedicated public figure. His contributions to the Kanata community were acknowledged by establishing this park as a tribute to his service. Although initially developed as a simple community space, the park has since evolved significantly. Over time, it was expanded to include various amenities, and today, it is seen as a central hub for recreational activities and events in Kanata.

Multiple shaded picnic areas have been provided throughout the park, making it an ideal location for family gatherings or a casual outdoor meal. Ample green spaces can be found, allowing for various recreational activities such as frisbee or kite flying. Families were set up on picnic blankets, and children were seen running freely on the spacious lawns. Despite the park's popularity on weekends, it didn't feel overcrowded, probably due to its large size.
