Sunshine Coast Parks and Places

During the summer seasons the trails are used by naturalists and backpackers primarily and when the winter arrives the trails transform into single track cross country ski and snowshoeing trails.

The Klein Lake Loop Trail takes about 2-3 hours but time is not the challenge here. The trail, depending on which trailhead is the departure point, has some steep climbs to trek during the 2.5 miles (4 km) route.

The area is a popular destination for swimming fishing and for beach activities. There are picnic tables onsite and a leisure easy grade trail exploring around the perimeter of Ruby Lake. The loop hiking trail is approximately 0.8 km long.

The Willingdon Beach Trail is a 1.2 km trail. The Willingdon Beach Trail has some exposed beach walking opportunities. Willingdon Beach Park has parking, concession stand, museum, waterpark and grassy area.

The summit of the Pender Hill shows off views of the Sechelt Peninsula and Pender Harbour. The views come with entertainment too as sailboats, fishing boats, yachts and motor boats travel back and forth out of Pender Harbour.

The Knob 2 hiking trail enjoys navigating the side of Mount Elphinstone (4,137 feet/1261 m).Prepare well with water and good hiking boots, as it takes 2 hours one way, 4 hours round trip and that is not taking into consideration the long picnic many enjoy at the summit

The mountain biking route includes highway riding and logging roads. The climbs, although tough, do reward the biker with great views of Jervis Inlet and some speed descents.

Blackwater Creek Trail in Powell River, BC Canada on the Sunshine Coast is a comfortable 4 km hike and mountain bike ride. The trail route is used by both hikers and mountain bikers, so keep your head up.

Soames Hill is a straight up 1 km (0.6 mi.). A steep hike, with hundreds of stairs, that rewards you in two ways.

Mowat Bay is a perfect beach for families and friends. The area enjoys a sandy beach, cement theatre like benches, boat launch and great scenery. This is said to be one of the best beach destinations in the Powell River area.

The summer seasons attract the mountain bike, off road (ATV and motorbikes) and hiking enthusiasts to the Dakota Ridge area. Winter is its main use for xc ski and snowshoeing.
