Bear Lake is a regional day use park and year round activity destination located north of the community of Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. The shallow lake is large and measures no more than 2 metres deep in most areas.
There is a recreation day use area on the shores of Bear Lake. The recreation day use area rests on the shores of Bear Lake near a small sandy beach and a boat launch. To reach the day use area one must travel a rough gravel road first to the parking lot entrance of Bear Lake.
Not far from the beach and boat launch, fronting the lake, is a large grass field and a picnic area. The day use area. includes some picnic tables, fire pits, interpretive shelter with wood stove, a large playground, pit toilets and some recreation trails.
During the summer months Bear Lake is an outdoor destination for activities and adventures like hiking, canoeing, swimming, kayaking, picnicking, swimming and birdwatching.
During the winter, the lake freezes over and becomes a snowmobile and cross country ski destination. There is no fishing on the lake as there are no fish in the lake.
Travel to the community of Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. From the community travel north for 11 kilometres on Highway #2 pass Clairmont Park. Look for a gravel road on your left identified by a small Bear Lake sign. Follow the gravel road to the parking lot and lake.
