Hiawatha Highlands Wilderness Preserve is a recreation, activity and sightseeing destination located near the community of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. The community of Sault Ste. Marie in located in Algoma Country in Northern Ontario.

The Hiawatha Highlands Wilderness Preserve measures over 1215 hectares (3000 acres). Within the preserve is a smaller park named the Kinsmen Park which measures 97 hectares (240 acres).

Throughout the Hiawatha Highlands and Kinsmen Park are a vast network of recreation trails measuring over 40+ kilometres used year round. Kinsmen Park is the main jump off point for accessing the trails and the park services.

Both... the Hiawatha Highlands and Kinsmen Park are year round adventure destinations. During the summer months the trails are popular for hiking, mountain biking and sightseeing. During the winter months people enjoy cross country skiing and snowshoeing.

Near the main parking lot in Kinsmen Park is a picnic area, playground, clubhouse, swimming area, washrooms, Kinsmen Centre and trailhead entrances to some of the trails. During the winter season the clubhouse operates as a concession providing warm beverages, snacks and ski rentals.

Located within the Hiawatha Highlands and Kinsmen Park there is a network of 14+ kilometres of double track trails set aside for snowshoeing. Cross country skiers enjoy a network of 40+ kilometres.

The nordic xc ski trails include marked, groomed and track trails. There are beginner routes and advanced trails for experienced skiers. Located near the clubhouse there are 2 kilometres of trails for night skiing.

The trails are divided into three trail networks - the Crystal Creek, Pinder and Red Pine.

Crystal Creek System : Skating and Classic skiing. The Crystal Trail is a double track route for classic and skate. The rest of the trails are single-track routes for classic and skate.

Pinder System : Skating and Classic skiing. The Pinder Trail is a double track route for classic and skate. The rest of the trails are single-track routes for classic and skate.

Red Pine System Classic and freestyle skiing.

The main trails in the region include the Kinsmen (2km), Crystal Creek (5 km), Hiawatha (2 km), Inner Loop (2 km), Olympic (2.5 km) and Mabel Lake (10 km).

From the main trails there are extension trails which explore further into the wilderness. They include the Pinder (4 km), Mockingbird Hill (2 km), Sugar Bush (1.2 km), White Pine (2 km), Red Pine (5 km), Fish Hatchery (5 km), Coldwater Creek (2.5 km) and Wishart (1.5 km).

The park is open year round. Cross country skiing is allowed between December and March. The rest of the year the trails are explored hiking and mountain biking.

The recreation trails during the summer months lead to sightseeing destinations and views of creeks, meadows, forests and waterfalls. One of the most popular sightseeing destinations in the park is Crystal Falls. A short walk from the parking lot following a boardwalk trail leads to a lookout overlooking the falls.

Mountain bikers will enjoy the, seemingly, endless network of trails in the Hiawatha Highlands Wilderness Preserve. There are double track, single track, downhill and technical riding trails for all skill levels.

From the downtown area of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada travel north on the Great Northern Road to Fifth Line. Take a right onto Fifth Line and continue to Landslide Road. At Landslide take a left and continue to the park.
