Canadian Museum for Human Rights
December 10 is World Human Rights Day and each year the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg hosts a day with free admission and extra programs for a particular theme.  For 2016 it was devoted to the rights of the those with disabilities.  The deaf mime group, 100 Decibels, was particularly engaging and entertaining.  There is so much to see and do it took us 3-1/2 hours to touch the surface of all that is displayed on the 8 floors!  The panoramic view of the city from 8th floor tower is a great starting place for your tour, which means, according to the guide, there will be almost no waiting to access the viewing platform as there is later in the day as others start on the first floor and move up floor to floor through the exhibits in the conventional manner.  Exhibits tells stories of human rights abuses from all over the world and those that champion rights, past and present, are featured as well. The fair trade museum gift shop has wonderful variety of items.  There is even a contemplative garden/pond area where one can reflect on the messages of despair and hope that mingle together in this special place.  The food in the cafe is wonderful as well, and very affordable.  Be prepared to do a lot of walking up and down those ramps, or taking elevators floor to floor if you have issues in that regard is a great alternative.  Open daily 10 to 5 except Mondays is the general rule but there is evening hours posted as well on their website.
