Introduction To Art and Theatre in the Vancouver Islands, BC, Canada

Most all communities on Vancouver Island have a high concentration of artists, some more than others. Some high end local artists have their works on display in local art galleries and some operate their own art studios and are part of art tours. Their are artists who are called muralists and their works are displayed in the community on the side of buildings. Artists tend to specialize in a particular art form. Some specialize in painting while others may dabble in painting, sculpture, carving, architecture, and poetry. 

First Nations art is a growing art form on Vancouver Island. First Nation art works tell the stories of the First Nation's culture and traditions through their carvings, weavings and sculptures.   

Performing arts include theatre and dance. There are local theatre groups who perform plays year round in their communities. Their are communities with indoor and/or outdoor stages. The size of the theatre venues varies per community. Some seat under 50 people while others are able to entertain crowds in the hundreds.
