Big White Mountain is located northeast of the community of Kelowna, British Columbia in the Okanagan Valley. Big White is a year round recreation destination popular for mountain biking and hiking in the summer and skiing and snowboarding in the winter.
Big White is a full service resort with accommodations, restaurants and pubs. The mountain resort is best known for its winter recreation. The popular ski hill is a full service destination with over 118 designated ski trails and some 27+ unnamed ski runs. Big White covers over about 4500 ha (11,000 acres) with a vertical drop of 777 m (2550 ft).
Big White ski runs are tailored for the intermediate skier and up - as 18% of the runs are "Green Runs" designed for beginners. 54% of the runs are for the Intermediate skier while 22% for expert skiers. 6% of the ski runs are for, what they call, "Extreme" skiers. The whole system of ski runs is serviced by 15 ski lifts including a Gondola. There is a snow board park with rails, pipes and a 1/2 pipe. The Big White Village enjoys many services and amenities. Spread out through the ski resort are many restaurants, some ski rental shops, gift stores and 8 bars and lounges. There is a skating rink, an Adventure Park with a tube ride.
On the mountain there is a good selection of vacation homes, cottages, condos, town houses, 3 hotels and 1 youth hostel. But, like all ski hills in British Columbia, accommodation availability dwindles in the winter and spring ski season.
Big White Ski Resort also offers helicopter ski tours, night skiing and snowmobile tours to groups.
