Salmon River Trails & Dog Park

Lumby BC Salmon River Trails

Salmon River Trails & Dog Park - When entering Lumby, BC, the Salmon River Dog Park and Trails are a hidden gem off Highway 6. They are a quiet, beautiful, loop-style trail. It is the perfect family escape, featuring mountain biking paths, family-friendly walking, hiking, bike paths, scenic views, and a central off-leash dog park area. When not in the dog park area, dogs must be on a leash, and doggy bags are located throughout the trails, along with very well-maintained garbage cans for disposal.

Salmon River Trails ranging from under 1km to 8km

With different loop trail options ranging from under 1km to 8 km, there are options for all levels of walkers. The path is even large enough to fit a stroller for younger families. The largest trail eventually connects to the other loops, creating one large 8 km loop that connects back to the parking lot.

Family & picnic-centred park

Several picnic tables are just off the path. Picnic areas are large, offering space for coolers or other supplies needed during a picnic. The tables are well-maintained, making this a safe space for the kids! Beautiful streams are throughout the walkway, and during the early fall, guests can watch the Salmon River run through the area.

Wheelchair & stroller-friendly trails in Lumby BC

Lined with beautiful, huge birch trees, natural herbs, and flowers, it is full of beauty. All the trails are maintained very well and are easy to walk! There are smaller hills when waking up to the bridges, but the ramp grade is small enough to allow electric and manual wheelchairs.

Off Leash dog park, birding & animal sightings

Situated after the first and foremost bridge is a large off-leash dog; please keep in mind there is no separate area for big or small dogs, so all dogs share this space. This park is known for birding and animal sightings. A group of owls and hawks nest in the area, making it a birding paradise! While speaking to a neighbor who lives just off the trail, we were told several stories of fox sightings and were shown fox fur that was located on the trails!

Parking Lot area

Located in the large parking lot is an overhang picnic area for families stopping by for a road trip break or wanting to picnic before or after their walk. There is a combination of "adult-sized" and "child-sized picnic tables in this gazebo area. The parking lot also features two large fountains in a natural pond, a permanent outhouse-style washroom, and a bike repair unit. There are also electronic car charging stations so your car can charge while you are on your hike!

Salmon River Trail tours

During June through August, the Village of Lumby's visitor center offers students guided walking tours of the trails. Along the trails, there are hand-carved wooden interactive games and puzzles with information about the flora and fauna of the area.
