Newcastle Park is a recreation destination and picnic area located on the Red Deer River in the community of Drumheller, Alberta, Canada.
The park is referred to as the Newcastle Beach Recreation Area. And yes there is a sandy beach on the sloping banks of the Red Deer River in the park.
The white sandy beach is a very popular summer destination ideal for swimming and lounging about on a hot summer day.
The Red Deer River in the Newcastle Beach Recreation Area or Drumheller, Alberta, Canada is also a kayaking and canoeing route. Some launch from the park others are seen floating by.
Next to the beach are large grass lawns with many trees providing shade from the sun. Scattered amongst the trees are picnic tables and a picnic kitchen shelter. The shelter is covered and is equipped with a large group BBQ site.
The Red Deer River Nature Trail connects to Newcastle Beach Park. The trail is a very popular route for sightseeing the community of Drumheller while enjoying a day of hiking, biking, jogging or roller blading.
Nearby there are baseball diamonds, washrooms and a playground for children. The Newcastle Beach Recreation Area is ideal for group functions, tournaments, festivals and events. There is a camping area for groups who have booked the baseball diamonds for tournaments.
