Heritage Trail System

Heritage Trail System is a 90+ kilometre network of recreation pathways exploring the community of Medicine Hat, Alberta in the southern Alberta region of Canada.

The paved, shale and gravel trails combine with side streets to create an excellent opportunity to sightsee the community and visit with parks, attractions and recreation facilities.

Some of the more popular parks accessed via the Heritage Trail System include the Riverside, Echo Dale, Police Point, Lions, Strathcona Island and Kin Coulee Parks.

Some of the summer activities enjoyed on the Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada trail system include walking, jogging, biking, roller blading, picnicking and sightseeing. The paved sections of the trail are very wheelchair and baby stroller friendly.

In the winter months, after the snow has fallen, some of the pathways on the Heritage Trail System are converted over to snowshoe and cross country ski routes.

Some of the facilities and amenities located on or accessed via the Heritage Trail System include an arboretum, attractions, children's playgrounds, skate park, boat launches, curling club, toboggan hill, viewpoints, picnic sites, picnic shelters, washrooms, spray water park, golf courses, and baseball, softball, football and soccer fields.

There are some particular sections of the Heritage Trail System which are considered some of the better routes for sightseeing by bike or on foot.

The 6.7 kilometre one-way paved pathway from Gas City Campground to Echo Dale Park is an activity route leading away from the sights and sounds of the city, popular for biking and jogging.

In the community of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada there are about 10 kilometres of paved paths exploring the north and south banks of the South Saskatchewan River. The north trail connects to Police Point Park and the south bank trail connects to the Lions and Strathcona Island Parks.

From Strathcona Park there is another route worth exploring. It is a paved trail following the banks of the Seven Persons Creek. It measures 3 kilometres one way connecting to the Kin Coulee Park.
