The trailhead for Silverton Falls hike is easily found along the Bow Valley Parkway (Hwy 1A) near the Castle Mountain Campground. The trail starts at the Rockbound Lake Trailhead and there is a fair amount of parking available here as well as pit vault toilets. This is a short trail to the waterfall in Banff. This trail splits off from the Rockbound Lake trail to the right for Silverton Falls. You will notice a sign pointing the way to go once at the fork.
Silverton Falls is a fantastic hike if you're pressed for time. It's less than 1km to the waterfall view point. So it takes less than an hour to complete this trip at a total of 1
8km in and back. The trail starts out wide and relatively smooth until you reach the fork for Silverton Falls. The trail then narrows and you'll notice more roots and rocks sticking out along this section of the hike. There are a few switchbacks on your way up to break up the bit of elevation gain coming in at 111m total. Further past the switchbacks, the trail becomes extremely narrow along a slope with very abrupt drop offs. This section is short, but if you have small children or aren't sure footed around heights be very careful here. Once you arrive at the waterfall there is a small viewing area with no safety rails.
Because the Silverton Falls hike is short and sweet, you may want to continue on to Rockbound Lake. Alternatively, take the hike up Johnson Canyon just up the street on the Bow Valley Parkway. Enjoy a scenic picnic at the Storm Mountain Lookout and enjoy the views of Castle Mountain. Banff has endless outdoor adventure opportunities, and there's no shortage in this particular area alone.
