Waterfront Pathway / Walkway (part of the Rotary Lakeside Park) is a paved recreation trail exploring the banks of the West Arm of Kootenay Lake in the community of Nelson, BC in the Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada. The 3.5 kilometre walking path stretches from the City Wharf on one end of the walkway to Lakeside Park on the other end of the waterfront walkway near the big ``Orange Bridge``.

Kootenay Photo Gallery - Waterfront Pathway The Waterfront Pathway is lined with sitting benches, lookouts, flower gardens, stone statues and stone monuments. The pathway passes by marinas, boats, soccer fields, wetlands and sandy beaches. The pathway forms part of the Lakeside Rotary Park.

In Lakeside Park there is an adventure playground, large grass lawns and a popular sandy beach. During the summer months a concession is serving food and drinks. On the other end of the pathway is a marina, some shopping and a wetland area popular for birdwatching. The Waterfront Pathway is on the Pacific Flyway which is one of the four major migration routes used by waterfowl in North America.

The Waterfront Pathway also follows closely the same path as Streetcar #23. A working heritage railcar in the community of Nelson used for transportation and for sightseeing tours.

Activities popular on the Waterfront Pathway include walking, jogging, roller blading and birdwatching. The trail is also dog friendly. About a third of the trail dogs must be on a leash, but better yet, half of the trail allows (well behaved) dogs to be walked off leash.

Think of the Waterfront Pathway as a self guided walking tour of the community of Nelson providing a great opportunity to get outside and observe the many waterfront activities while enjoying the scenery and, maybe even, spot some wildlife.
