Central Park is a recreational destination located in community of Burnaby, BC. The park measures over 90+ hectares (223 acres) and is situated in a busy part of town on the border of Downtown Vancouver and Burnaby in the lower mainland - just west of Metrotown (major shopping mall in Burnaby).
The urban day use park is a year round destination well known for its activities, bird sightings, playgrounds and heavy tree cover consisting of maple, poplar, douglas fir and hemlock trees.
Central Park includes some quality playgrounds popular with the local children. There are also some tennis courts, horseshoe pits, day use picnic sites, an outdoor pool, fitness circuit, hiking trails, sports fields, lawn bowling greens, gardens, pitch and putt and a stadium for events (Swanguard Stadium).
The trail network in the park connects to recreation facilities and to two birdwatching ponds. The recreation trails are well maintained and easy to follow. Most are level and very easy going suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
There are three main trails in Central Park. There is a 1.9 km trail, a 3 km trail and a 5 km trail. All three trailhead entrances are best from the Kingsway Street parking lot in the park.
The dirt and earthy trails are well marked with signs and trail maps. Located along the trails are sightseeing benches, day use picnic tables, information signs, plaques, monuments and washrooms.
The forest cover, trails, ponds and recreation facilities in Central Park provide an opportunity for many activities, events and adventures during the year. Some of the activities enjoyed in Central Park include walking, jogging, tennis, picnicking, birdwatching, biking, lawn bowling, dog walking, golfing and swimming (summer hours vary).
