Nelson Canyon & Whyte Lake Trail

The park is a destination for accessing 3 prime hiking trails in the Horseshoe Bay-West Vancouver area. The three major hiking trails include the Whyte Lake Trail, a 25 kilometre section of the Trans Canada Trail and the western terminus of the Baden Powell Trail.

The Whyte Lake Trail measures about 3 kilometres one-way. The trail is a connector trail between the Trans Canada Trail in the south to the Baden Powell Trail in the north of the park.

From the trailhead entrance the trail route starts off by following a small section of the Trans Canada Trail before connecting with the Whyte Lake Trail. When on the Whyte Lake Trail all dogs must be on leash.

The first section of the Whyte Lake Trail follows Nelson Creek before entering into Nelson Canyon Park. The main section of trail in the park follows the banks of Whyte Creek before connecting with Whyte Lake in the northern section of the park.

At Whyte Lake there are two off-shoot trails which lead you down to the shores of the lake and some lake views. At one of the trail junctions there are some pit toilets. Continue hiking west from Whyte Lake and the trail eventually connects to the Baden Powell Trail.

The Whyte Lake Trail is moderately difficult in areas. There are challenging steep sections and there are easy going level sections. There are sections of the trail which follow an earthy, sometimes muddy and slippery, path and there are sections of the trail which follow a boardwalk pathway.
