Secret Cove Trail, Moresby Island

A wilderness trail following a creek through wet, moist forests, passing by thick clumps of ferns and piles of deadfall. The trail is a short, easy grade trail that leads to the coastline and Secret Cove. It is a trail located in the rugged backyard of Moresby Island, which is part of the Haida Gwaii Islands Archipelago.

Secret Cove Trail - Haida Gwaii, BC Photo GalleryThe trail is made of well packed earth with some grassy areas. Because of the moist conditions of the area the trail can become very muddy during the fall to late spring seasons. The pebbled cove is small and private. Often you could be the only one of the beach.

The Secret Cove Trail and hiking route is accessed via a well maintained 21 kilometre active gravel logging road near the Sandspit Village. Further exploration of the area uncovers an abandoned road surrounded by Alder Trees that, when followed, leads to Sheldens Bay.

Not far from Secret Cove Trail is the Gray Bay recreational campground with a large beach area. The beach area is gorgeous and, at low tide, the ocean waters recede leaving behind hard packed sand. Also in the area is the Gray Bay-Cumshewa Head Trail which is 3 miles (4.5km) and leads to one of the easternmost points on Moresby Island.
