Moose Valley Provincial Park

Moose Valley Provincial Park in 100 Mile House, South Cariboo-Chilcotin Region, British Columbia, Canada is a remote recreation destination located in the backcoutry forests near 100 Mile House. The Moose Valley Park protects a chain of small lakes popular for canoeing, hiking, birdwatching and wilderness camping. 

The 2,322 hectare park is located west of 100 Mile House, BC, Canada and consists of 12 small lakes surrounded by wetland bogs and marshlands, connected by canoe portage routes. Some of the lakes in the park connected by portage routes include the Grebe, Moose, Long, Beaverlodge, Kirkland, Crane, Marks, and Maitland Lakes.

Marks Lake is the main starting point for most canoeist who plan on exploring the Moose Valley Canoe Route. The lake is a good base camp as it has 3 designated wilderness first-come, first-serve campsites. Each campsite includes a picnic table and a fire pit. There is a pit toilet and a roof top canoe launch onsite.

From Marks Lake there is a couple hiking trails which connect to some other lakes in the system by foot. The Maitland Lake Trail is a short 0.5 kilometre route leading to the west side of Maitland lake and a wilderness cabin. Crane Lakes Trail is a 1.5 kilometre trek to the Cranes Lakes. And, outside the park boundary is a short hiking trail connecting to Canoe Lake. The trailhead is located on the 1100 FSR (Forest Service Road) at the 1122 Km marker.

Many of the lakes in the Moose Valley Provincial Park include small islands. Almost all of the lakes contain lilly pads and reeds which is ideal for bird life, moose and amphibians. The tall reeds on some of the lakes provide the nesting and feeding grounds for many birds.

Some of the wildlife opportunities in the park include possible sightings of moose, black bears, muskrat, ducks, loons, beaver, sandhill cranes, woodpeckers, owls, hawks and eagles.

Some of the other lakes nearby in the area to explore while canoeing or fishing include the Whale, Boar, Snag and Valentine Lakes. In the winter the trail systems to make note of include the Helena and Begbie Snowmobile Routes.
