Making Snow Cream in Canada

Making Winter Treats with Fresh Snow

How do you make snow ice cream? It's super easy! I will share how we make our ice cream from fresh fallen snow below. With only 3 simple ingredients, there really isn't much to making this fun winter treat. Depending where you live, may depend how often you can make this. But up in Canada here, we certainly get our fair share of snow. So finally, here is a fun way to make some good use of it!

First things first. You need fresh snow to make snow ice cream! Photo Credit- Andrea Horning

How To Make Snow Ice Cream? We Need Snow!

Firstly, and most importantly, we need to collect the snow for our homemade ice cream. Conveniently, you can set a bowl outside at the start of a snowfall, or go collect some untouched snow from a quiet area. Just leave the snow outside until you're 100% ready with everything else. In addition, it helps to have a chilled bowl, whether that's from it being outside or in the fridge or freezer, the snow will mix a lot better and melt slower. I used about 9 cups of snow for my batch of snow cream.

3 Ingredient Ice Cream Recipe

Making winter treats, like ice cream, at home from fresh snow is super easy with only a couple of ingredients needed. I looked around for some vanilla in the baking drawer and a can of condensed milk in the cupboard. You could also do this with milk and sugar as well or a variety of other variations too. Have some fun with it! Next I chose to put some vanilla flavor into this batch. Always a classic choice for ice cream. I just poured and mixed it straight into the condensed milk can prior to mixing it with the ice cream. Giving it an even flavour throughout.

Preparing Ice Cream Made of Snow

Now that you have your ingredients set out, open, and ready, you can bring the snow inside! Quickly, you'll have snow cream within minutes. Just put the snow into a large mixing bowl, and pour the milk in, stirring gently. Mix well and viola, ice cream! Throw some sprinkles on top for an extra fun winter treat.
