Burnstick Lake Resort is a private family owned and operated campground offering yearly seasonal campsites. This campground has a waiting list for their sites as they become available. Having over 25 years behind them already, it is a very beloved campground with many long term renters. As of 2022 The Burnstick Lake Resort now offers "glamping dome" sites that are available to rent for shorter periods. A very cool geo dome style tent offering beautiful views over the lake. I was actually the 1st person to ever rent one of their geodomes! A fantastic experience that I highly recommend if you want to disconnect in a unique way. This property offers a boat launch, rustic playground, out houses, a small private beach and wonderful service on the south side of the lake. Additionally, you may enjoy the fact it is the only development on this side of the lake, giving it a very private and peaceful setting.
The second camping option on Burnstick Lake is a large public campground near the Summer Village of Burnstick on the east side of the lake. The Burnstick Lake Campground has about 70 various sites to rent. You can choose from seasonal sites, regular tent and RV sites, as well as group camping. You can even rent a site that already has an RV on it. Pack light and just show up! Most sites are unserviced, but there are a few with hookups. A septic dump area is available for a fee on location. Burnstick Lake Campground features a boat launch, small sandy beach, a fishing dock, small store with snacks and essentials, as well as rentals for kayaks, paddleboards and more. Another neat perk is that you can ride your ATV in and out of this campground to the endless trails surrounding the lake. Reservations can be made from April 15th at the start of the camping season. This is a popular campground in Alberta, so book early!
Burnstick Lake is a fantastic fishing destination. This lake is home to Northern Pike, Walleye and Perch. There is a catch and keep limit on pike and perch, whereas the walleye are strictly catch and release. Hiking is another popular activity to enjoy in this central Alberta region. There are many trails around the lake connecting you to the vast Crown Land around the area. Burnstick Lake is also a popular lake for water sports. Go kayaking, SUPing, canoeing, water skiing and more.
The campgrounds may be closed during the winter months, but that doesn't mean there is nothing to do during the colder months! Ice Fishing is a popular winter activity here. Easy access from the Burnstick Lake Campground boat launch. Surrounded by Crown Land means endless trails around the lake to explore as well. Bring your snowmobile to experience a winter wonderland of beautiful forest and nature trails. Grab your snowshoes and wander into the back country or across the lake. Sometimes you can skate on the lake, if conditions allow. With a camping permit, you could winter camp on the surrounding Crown Land. Don't forget your Cross County skies and make a visit to the nearby Bearberry Nordic Centre for their awesome trails at Bearberry Cabins. Bearberry Cabins is also a great choice for einter accommodations in the area. Finally, be sure to check out the surrounding communities for events throughout the winter, such as Sundre Winterfest.
This lake has a great central location between Sundre, Caroline and Rocky Mountain House. Meaning there are many more places to explore if you're looking for a bit more to do. Head to Rocky Mountain House and make a visit to the Mountain House Bakery and Cake Art that's open year round. Experience the Caroline Wheels of Time Museum from May to September, or make a visit to the cool outdoor store in town. Heading south? Then maybe have a blast with all the amazing events that take place around the Sundre Rodeo, or shop the cute stores while in town. There is also a fantastic bakery in Sundre.
